Asahi Pentax Bellows Unit — M42 Screw Mount, Original Box & Instructions

A classic Asahi Pentax bellows unit in its original packaging, complete with instructions — a versatile and practical macro accessory for M42 screw mount cameras. Bellows units work by extending the distance between the lens and the film plane, enabling extreme close-up and macro photography far beyond what is possible with standard close-up filters or extension tubes. The Asahi Pentax bellows is a well-regarded example of the type: smooth, precise, and built to the high standard Pentax consistently maintained in their accessories.

Provenance

• Maker: Asahi Optical Co. Ltd, Japan — the manufacturer behind the Pentax brand, one of the most respected names in Japanese camera and optical manufacturing. Asahi Pentax cameras and accessories were renowned for their build quality and optical excellence throughout the 1950s–1980s.
• Mount: M42 screw mount (also known as the Pentax screw mount or Universal screw mount) — one of the most widely adopted lens mounts in the history of 35mm photography, compatible with lenses and accessories from Pentax, Zeiss, Takumar, Helios, and many other manufacturers. M42 lenses can also be adapted to modern mirrorless cameras with an inexpensive adapter.
• Function: Bellows unit — extends the lens-to-film distance to enable extreme close-up and macro photography. Unlike fixed extension tubes, bellows allow continuous and precise adjustment of magnification ratio.
• Appeal: A practical and desirable macro accessory for film photographers using M42 cameras, and equally useful adapted to modern mirrorless systems for macro work. Original packaging and instructions add significant collector value.
