The Werra 1 was first produced in 1954 by VEB Carl Zeiss Jena, East Germany, and is famous for its strikingly clean, uncluttered design. Its most distinctive feature is the knurled ring on the lens barrel — a single twist simultaneously advances the film and cocks the shutter, an elegant solution that keeps the body free of levers and dials. A camera as pleasing to look at as it is to use.
