A neat and characterful Super 8 cine camera from the early 1970s — the Hanimex MP 505 Loadmatic, produced between 1970 and 1971. Super 8 cartridges are still available, making this a genuinely usable vintage camera as well as a display piece. Powered by four AA batteries and fitted with a zoom lens, it's a compact and capable little camera from the golden era of home movies.

Condition

  • Overall: Working.
  • Zoom: Automatic zooming does not work — manual zoom works fine.
  • Optics: Good.
  • Viewfinder: Good.
  • Light meter: Works but temperamental.
  • Cosmetic: Some small areas of cosmetic wear — nothing major.
  • Accessories: Hand strap included. Requires 4 AA batteries (not included).

Provenance

  • Maker: Hanimex — an Australian-founded photographic and consumer electronics brand, active from the 1950s through to the 1990s, that distributed and badged cameras and equipment from various manufacturers for the mass market. Hanimex products were widely sold across Europe, Australia, and beyond throughout the 1960s and 70s.
  • Model: MP 505 Loadmatic — a Super 8 cartridge-loading cine camera with zoom lens, automatic exposure, and electric motor drive. The ‘Loadmatic’ name refers to the simple drop-in Super 8 cartridge loading system introduced by Kodak in 1965.
  • Film: Super 8 cartridge — still widely available from specialist suppliers.
  • Era: 1970–71 — the peak of the home movie boom.
  • Appeal: A working Super 8 camera at an accessible price point — with film still available, this is a genuine entry point into vintage filmmaking as well as a charming display piece.
