A Pentax 645 focusing screen in its original packaging — complete with handling pincers and original instructions. Focusing screens for the Pentax 645 medium format system are increasingly sought after and difficult to find in this condition; an uninstalled, unmarked example with all original accessories is genuinely exceptional. The Pentax 645 system accepts interchangeable focusing screens, allowing photographers to swap between different screen types to suit their shooting style.

Condition

  • Screen: Unused — no surface damage, no marks.
  • Pincers: Included — the dedicated handling tool for safe installation without fingerprints.
  • Instructions: Original instructions included.
  • Box: Original box present — age-related marks and wear, intact.

Provenance

  • Maker: Asahi Optical Co. Ltd (Pentax), Japan — one of the most respected names in Japanese camera manufacturing. The Pentax 645 system, introduced in 1984, was Pentax's medium format SLR system, offering 6×4.5cm negatives — more than twice the area of 35mm — in a body that handled more like a 35mm SLR than a traditional medium format camera.
  • Compatibility: Pentax 645 and 645N medium format SLR cameras.
  • Function: Interchangeable focusing screen — the Pentax 645 accepts a range of screen types including plain matte, split-image, microprism, and grid screens, each optimised for different types of photography. Replacing or upgrading the screen allows the photographer to tailor the viewfinder to their needs.
  • Appeal: An exceptionally rare find in unused condition — Pentax 645 focusing screens are difficult to source and command a premium among Pentax 645 users and collectors. The complete original packaging adds significant value.
