Vintage Laboratory Microscope Illuminator — Adjustable Iris & Intensity, Tilting Stand, British, c.1950s–1960s
A thoroughly striking piece of British laboratory equipment — a vintage adjustable illuminator originally used as an auxiliary light source for microscopy, dating from the 1950s–1960s. Beautifully constructed in the tradition of mid-century scientific instrument making, with a black enamel body, brass fittings, and a fully adjustable stand that tilts and swivels to direct the beam precisely. The combination of adjustable iris diaphragm and variable intensity control makes this a genuinely sophisticated piece of optical equipment — and an extraordinarily characterful object for interior, display, or prop use. Fully working.
Note: This lamp runs on 240v (UK mains). The existing cord and plug are functional but could benefit from rewiring to a more aesthetically pleasing period-style cord — a straightforward job for an electrician. Please see photos for full condition detail. Age-related wear consistent with former laboratory use.
