A gorgeous and fully working Fujica Single-8 P-300 cine camera, manufactured in 1967. The Single-8 format was Fujifilm's answer to Kodak's Super 8, introduced the same year (1965) and offering a distinct technical advantage: a precision metal film gate that delivers sharper, more stable image registration than the plastic gate of Super 8. The result is a camera that serious vintage filmmakers still seek out today — and crucially, Single-8 film cartridges are still available.

Condition

  • Overall: Great condition — fully working.
  • Cosmetic: A couple of small cosmetic marks — nothing major.
  • Optics: Good. Focusing works correctly.
  • Power: Requires 4 AA batteries (not included).
  • Film: Single-8 cartridges still available from specialist suppliers.

Provenance

  • Maker: Fujifilm (Fuji Photo Film Co. Ltd), Japan — one of Japan's most respected photographic and optical manufacturers, founded in 1934. Fujifilm developed the Single-8 format in 1965 as a direct competitor to Kodak's Super 8, with the key differentiator being a metal film gate for superior image stability.
  • Model: Fujica Single-8 P-300 — a mid-range model in the Single-8 lineup, featuring a quality Fujinon lens and automatic exposure.
  • Format: Single-8 — same frame size as Super 8 but with a metal gate and different cartridge design. Film still available from specialist suppliers including Fujifilm Japan.
  • Date: 1967 — the early years of the Single-8 format.
  • Appeal: A genuinely usable vintage cine camera — not just a display piece. The combination of working condition, available film, and the technical superiority of the metal gate makes this a serious option for vintage filmmakers as well as collectors.
